Prof. Dr. Gunter Süß

From 1994-2000, I studied English/American Studies and Communication Studies at TU Dresden and Belmont University Nashville (USA). I then worked for twelve years as a research assistant at the Chair of American Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology. I completed my doctorate there in 2005 with a thesis on sound in feature films and computer games (Sound Subjects: Zur Rolle des Tons in Film und Computerspiel, Trier: WVT, 2006).

I have been teaching and researching at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences since 2013; initially from 2013-2016 as an academic assistant for key competences in the SEM project and from 2017 in the Scientific Foundations in the Induction Phase project. In 2015, I habilitated at Chemnitz University of Technology (title of the thesis: ‘“Lute Texte”: Diskurse des Konflikts in der Kultur des antebellum’).

I teach (mostly in English) in the Studium Generale and am head of the ‘Knowledge and Society’ learning area at the IKKS. My research interests include cultural theory and cultural studies, film and TV studies, interculturality and university didactics.
