Scientific foundations in the introductory phase of studies
An increasingly heterogeneous student body with different educational backgrounds and the steadily increasing proportion of foreign students pose major challenges for universities. The project Academic foundations in the introductory phase of studies addresses this problem. In line with the overall concept for increasing student success, learning programmes for two central problem areas are being developed, piloted and established on a long-term basis at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, both university-wide and for specific target groups. The topics addressed are, on the one hand, the lack of knowledge and skills in scientific work and, on the other hand, the deficits in the maths and science skills profile of first-year students.
