This is a professional English course for Information Technology students with a “pre-intermediate” to “Intermediate” General English entry level – corresponding to an A2/B1 level on the Common European Framework of Reference.

Each group will meet twice a week. Students should make sure to sign up for the right language group, as per their majors: “IT-Sicherheit”, “Software Development” or “Wirtschaftsinformatik”. Although the final exam will be the same for all groups, some materials may differ slightly between one group and another, depending the students’ majoring subjects and/or their IT-related interests.

The language topics will include:

  • hardware and software components;
  • peripherals and storage units;
  • cybersecurity;
  • jobs in IT;
  • e-commerce;
  • customer service;
  • software engineering...

In addition to that, the following work-related communicative skills will be dealt with throughout the semester: presentations, emails, telephone calls and job applications (i.e. looking for and replying to job ads, writing CVs and cover letters). As a requirement for taking the final test (Klausur), ALL students must give a presentation (Referat) over the course of the semester. The dates and modalities of this compulsory oral task (Prüfungsvorleistung) will be discussed in the first week of the course.
