Professional English for Energy and Environmental Management

Studium Generale – Lernbereich 1 (Sprachen) – 60071

This course gives students an overview of specific terminology in the energy and environmental sectors. It also provides targeted language practice in a few key communicative working skills (e.g. telephoning and emailing).

The following technical vocabulary fields will be dealt with: 

  • Energy sources: renewable (water, wind, biomass) and non-renewable (gas, oil, coal, nuclear).
  • Energy market issues: production/generation, supply (i.e. transport/transmission), storage, distribution, marketing, pricing and billing.
  • Ethical and environmental debates: nuclear energy; green issues; geopolitical power struggles and the energy industry.

Teaching format: training/practical course

Face-to-face classes: 135 minutes per week [3 SWS], Thursday, 8:00 - 09:30, 1-122B (every two weeks, starting March 22nd) AND Friday, 08:00 - 09:30, 1-122B

Form of assessment: written exam/90 minutes during exam period

Pre-requisites:

Previous Technical English skills are not required. However, you should have at least a pre-intermediate (B1) General English level to follow the lesson.
