Dr. Gabin Ananou

Dr. Gabin Kouévi Ananou is Program Director at the German Aero Space Centre in Bonn in charge of the establishment of the African Climate Competence Centres, which are a joint initiative of Federal Republic of Germany and sixteen (16) countries in the western and southern African regions responding to the challenges of global climate change. The initiative is based on a decade of successful scientific cooperation in the human capacity building and the establishment of critical research infrastructures. This laudable initiative is located in the Project Management Agency of the Department of Environment, Culture and Sustainability of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (PT-DLR) of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Prior to this current assignment, Dr. Ananou was High level Diplomat and later on Research Project Manager at the Helmholtz Institution, an association of several Research Centers which contribute to solve grand challenges which face society, science, and industry by performing top-rate research strategic programs in the fields of Aeronautics, Space and Transport, Earth and Environment, Energy, Health, Key Technologies as well as Structure of Matters.

Dr. Ananou is born in Togo on 18th February 1968 and is a former High Level Diplomat. He is an African by birth and German by citizenship.

As a German with African roots and with his competences and skills in international diplomacy, Dr. Ananou is an expert for International Cooperation and has successfully negotiated continuous agreements for social and scientific projects during international conferences and negotiations.  He is in forefront of international cooperation of WASCAL/SASSCAL with international and regional organizations such as the World Bank group, African Development Bank (ADB), ECOWAS and SADC.

Dr. Ananou has developed and nurtured an extensive interdisciplinary network of Africa based and international collaborators to accomplish both short and long-term goals. He serves on  multiple, local, national and international political African communities and working groups and is member of various institutions serving the Development issues in Africa.

Dr. Ananou got the Doctor Honoris Causa from the Federal University of Technology Akuré (Nigeria) for his tremendous engagement for the development of Africa and is Associate Professor for International Cooperation and Climate Diplomacy at the University of The Gambia
